Sen Blake sworn in to the state Senate.

HARRISBURG, January 4, 2011 – – In front of dozens of family members, friends and supporters, state Sen. John P. Blake today took the oath of office to officially begin his first term serving Pennsylvania’s 22nd Senatorial District, which includes Lackawanna County and portions of Luzerne and Monroe counties.

Blake, a lifelong Lackawanna County resident, brings a lengthy background in community and economic development to the Senate where he said he will work on innovative policies to reform the local and business tax structure, help distressed cities and spur the state’s downtrodden economy.

“While I am humbled and honored to be sworn in as a state senator, the reality of the impending budget deficit and crumbling transportation infrastructure makes today more of a work day than a celebration,” Blake said. “I look forward to the many challenges that lie ahead over the next four years and will work to increase opportunities and improve the quality of life for all residents in my district.”

Before being elected to the state Senate, Blake served as Executive Deputy Secretary for the state Department of Community and Economic Development, managing a $1 billion budget and a staff of 350 workers.

Blake’s Scranton district office is currently located in the Mezzanine at 409 Lackawanna Ave Suite 1, and will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Scranton office can be reached at 570-207-2881 or toll-free at 1-877-346-5721.
