Blake, Local Officials Schedule Free Voter ID Informational Seminar

ARCHBALD, August 20, 2012 – – State Sen. John Blake (D-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Monroe) today announced that he will partner with state Rep. Ed Staback (D-Lackawanna/Wayne) and other local officials to host a free informational seminar tomorrow on the much-maligned Voter ID law.

The informational seminar is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 21 at 6:00 p.m. at Valley View High School in Archbald.

“While the fate of the controversial new law will ultimately be decided by the state Supreme Court, it is imperative that, regardless of the Court’s ruling, all prospective voters are aware of the provisions of the new law,” Blake said. “This seminar will be a great opportunity for residents to not only ensure that they have an acceptable form of identification under the law, but to take the necessary steps to obtain an acceptable ID prior to November’s important national election.”

A recent report by the Pennsylvania Department of State estimated that 758,000 registered voters – more than 40,000 in the three counties that comprise the 22nd Senatorial District – do not have photo identification cards from the state Department of Transportation. A significant number of these voters are senior citizens that do not drive.

State Reps. Sid Michaels Kavulich and Ken Smith are also scheduled to participate.

Valley View High School is located at 1 Columbus Drive in Archbald.

Media coverage is welcome and encouraged.
