SCRANTON, July 30, 2013 – State Sen. John Blake issued the following statement following the death Sunday of former Gov. William Scranton Jr.:

“Gov. Scranton was one of the most remarkable, distinguished, dedicated and respected public servants ever to call Lackawanna County home.

“I have long had deep admiration for him and I always welcomed any opportunity to hear him speak. His integrity and his wisdom — nurtured locally in the city founded by his family — will always be the keystone to our region and to our commonwealth.

“His legacy will remain among the best examples of selfless, dedicated, quality public service in the history of our great nation. On behalf of Louise, I extend our most sincere condolences to the entire Scranton family. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you at this difficult time.”
