SCRANTON, January 20, 2017 – State Sen. John Blake (D-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Monroe) today announced that he will serve as the Democratic Chairman for both the Senate Finance and Local Government Committees in the 2017-18 legislative session.

Blake, who was also recently selected as a member Senate Democratic Leadership team in the role of Caucus Administrator, served as the Finance Committee chair in the previous two legislative sessions.

“I am very much looking forward to added responsibilities and the important work that lies ahead as a member of our Senate Democratic Leadership team; as Democratic Chairman for two Senate committees; and as member of 8 standing committees,” Blake said. “As the Finance chair I will continue to defend our caucus position on critically important pension reform proposals and returning to the chairmanship of the Local Government Committee, I will be at the forefront of important public policy debates which are important to cities, counties and municipalities in the 22nd District.”

In addition to his two committee chairmanships, Blake will also serve as a member of the Senate Appropriations; Agriculture & Rural Affairs; Community, Economic and Recreational Development; Urban Affairs & Housing; Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness; and Senate Democratic Policy Committees.

Blake previously served as the Democratic Chair of the Senate Local Government Committee in the 2011-12 legislative session.

The Senate returns to session on Monday, January 23.
